Existen 47.130 hectáreas de terrenos destinados al cultivo de la vid, repartiéndose fundamentalmente entre Bullas, Jumilla y Yecla: las tres denominaciones de origen con las que cuenta la Región. "Vinos de la Tierra" Pero también destaca la presencia de viñedos en las comarcas de Abanilla y el Campo de Cartagena, donde se comercializan como "Vinos de la Tierra". La variedad de suelos y climas existentes en la Región permite producir una amplia gama de vinos tintos, rosados y blancos. Los típicos de esta zona derivan de la cepa Monastrell, una variedad tinta de racimos pequeños, que a su vez cuenta con las complementarias de Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha, Garnacha Tintorera, Merlot, Syrah y Tempranillo. Por su parte, los vinos blancos se elaboran con las variedades Macabeo, Airen, Pedro Ximénez, Malvasía y Chardonnay.
