Ismael Arroyo Wineries


A family winery that is located in the Burgos town of Sotillo de la Ribera, in the heart of the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin.


Ribera del Duero arises after the initiative of a series of viticulturists, winemakers, including Ismael Arroyo, and supported by technical officials concerned with promoting the vineyards and the quality of the wines.


Ismael Arroyo started planting a vineyard in Sotillo de la Ribera when other people were uprooting it, so people were surprised and said what he was doing was crazy.


The winery owns 25 hectares of vineyards, planted only with the Tinta del País grape variety. We also always buy grapes from the same winegrowers from Sotillo de la Ribera who, with their good work, take care of their vineyards to collect grapes of exceptional quality.


These vineyards reach an average age of 50 years, (some are up to 90) The vineyards are planted on well-ventilated and sunny slopes, on clayey-calcareous, sandy and stony soils.


The vines develop their growth naturally, respecting the environment, without drip irrigation or chemical fertilizers. Pruning is done manually with scissors, the vines are formed in the traditional system of goblet pruning, rigorously pruning the vines.


This is the best pruning system for the vine since it does not make it suffer and the plant endures a longer life. These privileged lands and surprising nature in this area of ​​Burgos offer us unparalleled quality grapes.
