Next to a small pine forest in Anguix, Burgos, we reveal to the world the light and the balance of this clearly French-influenced estate in Ribera del Duero. The winery was founded in 1998 in the style of a French ‘château’ at the heart of the renowned Ribera del Duero wine region.
Tarsus produces wines from estate-owned and a selection of controlled terroirs seeking to extract the best of the native varieties and achieve excellence.
Harvesting and winemaking processes are carried out individually by plot, under the guidance of the winemaker, Teresa Rodriguez, author of the wines in charge of achieving deeply aromatic wines, with a high concentration and great ageing potential.
Tarsus is named after the city in the region of Cilicia, Asia Minor, considered the cradle of wine civilization.
Teresa Rodríguez is Head of Oenology at Bodegas Tarsus. She was born in Madrid on 16 October, during the grape harvest. She comes from winemaking family, and grew up immersed in the world of wine.
Vineyard
The Tarsus vineyards have pioneered two-wired espalier training. This system, accompanied by regular green pruning, leads to better canopy and cluster development and healthier grapes.
Tarsus is committed to taking full advantage of the unique features of its vines in order to obtain intense, round, concentrated wines that reflect the very essence of the wine region.
Bodegas Tarsus is divided into in twenty plots, depending on soil type, grape variety and orientation of each.
Grapes
Tinta del País, known as Tempranillo in Rioja, is the most prestigious and characteristic of Spanish grape varieties. It is variety with average production yields, resulting in structured wines that are rich in alcohol and ageing potential, due to their low oxidative level. It is a characteristic ruby-red with deep aromas of small forest berries (blackberries, blackcurrants) and fruity flavours against a blackberry background.
