Vintage 2020 characterized by a relatively dry winter and spring, gave rise to an early budding of the vineyard. The low rainfall throughout the vegetative cycle, together with a long and hot summer and cold nights in the months of August and September, gave us a short harvest in production but of great quality, concentration and nobility.

It can be said that FRANCISCO BARONA was born under the vines. The vineyard is in his veins, his father is a winegrower, his grandfather and great-grandfather were also. His passion for the vineyard and wine makes him travel to Bordeaux, there he will graduate in viticulture and oenology, obtaining the recognized titles of BTS VO and DNO.
After working in several world-renowned wineries, France, the United States and South Africa, in 2009 he returned as a winemaker to the Ribera del Duero, the land where he was born and grew up among vineyards.
In 2010, at just 25 years old, convinced that he was in the best wine-growing region in the world, he began to develop an idea that he had had in mind for a long time: recovering centenary vineyards in the Ribera del Duero and making unique, authentic and different wines.
In 2011 with his first savings and without trembling his pulse, he bought 5 hawks of old stock, in 3 different towns, 5 GRAND CRUS that every year surprised him how good they were, small vines with very low yields, grapes that were sold to the prestigious Vega Sicilia winery.
Francisco Barona has 26 hectares of old vine on his property. 28 GRAND CRUS planted between 1908 and 1948. Most of the Tinto Fino vines coexisting in harmony with Grenache, Valencian, Monastreles, Albillos and Jaenes.
The vineyard is cared for with great responsibility, profession and passion. We always work in an ecological way and respecting the cosmic rhythms. No chemical herbicides or pesticides are used, the use of sulfur and copper is very limited. The vine uses its own natural defense systems to fight disease, helping it when required with natural plant preparations such as valerian, garlic, wormwood, chamomile, lavender, sage, horsetail, nettle or cinnamon.
The soil is kept covered with vegetation and not plowed during the fall, winter and spring, which increases its life and improves the nutrition of the plant.
