Since 1987, Jorge Ordonez's personal crusade has been to seek and safeguard the rich and long history of viticulture and winemaking in Spain. As the largest vine growing region on Earth, Spain has been growing vines and making wines for millennia. Jorge's goal is to support and conserve the richness of indigenous grape varieties of his land. His philosophy is based on the belief that Spain's potential lies in the abundance of old vineyards planted with the oldest clones of indigenous varieties. Unfortunately, the trend in Spain is to replant many of those old vineyards with more productive clones and international varieties, on trellises. Jorge Ordonez Selections combats this dynamic by defending a way of making wine that embodies our philosophy: what makes Spain unique is its vast history of viticulture and oenology, and a wealth and variety of old vineyards of indigenous varieties.
Founded in 2004, Jorge Ordonez Group is a select group of six wineries that make wines from grapes from seven different denominations of origin throughout Spain. All wineries are owned and managed by Jorge Ordonez. The philosophy of this project is the production of artisanal wines from the oldest vineyards of native Spanish grapes. All the vineyards are dry-run in glass and cared for following the most traditional viticulture methods. The Group's wines constitute the definitive representation of the quality wine made from the oldest clones of the different native Spanish varieties.
