Location: | Rioja Alavesa. |
Six generations of wine farmers. This family tradition is what drives the Bodega Eguren Ugarte in Laguardia, the heart of Rioja Alavesa.
At the foot of Sierra Cantabria and surrounded by 130 hectares of vineyards, the winery responds to a philosophy that its founder, Vitorino Eguren, always had very clearly. It is a spirit of welcome and attention to the visitor that summarizes centuries of the way of being of the Rioja Alavesa farmer.
A place where you can meet and enjoy the wine experience, reminisce about stories by going through its 2,000 meters of caves.
Vineyard
130 hectares of their own vineyard where they cultivate and control the production of their grapes in a traditional way in harmony with the most recent viticultural techniques.
The grapes for the production of its wines come from vineyards in the clay-limestone soils of Labastida, Páganos, Leza and Elciego, in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa. A north-south orientation is sought and they are conducted on high trellises, thus ensuring greater exposure to the sun.
As the vineyards are not irrigated, they are completely dependent on weather conditions.
They carry out the harvest manually and mechanically, so that the grapes arrive at the winery at their optimum moment.
Cellar
4,000 barrels arranged in several rooms or 2,000 meters of caves carved into the rock. A winery buried in the ground and promoted by Vitorino, the fifth generation of the Eguren Family. In 1989 he decided to build this winery on the largest estate the family owned, Sotovin, in Páganos. A house always open to the visitor where you will be welcomed like at home.
