BARAHONDA

Barahonda

A winery between centuries-old vineyards.

Around 1850 Pedro Candela Soriano began to produce and sell locally small amounts of wine until Antonio Candela García founded a small Winery in 1925. Subsequently took over she Antonio Candela Poveda, who made her grow and evolve over the years and currently, his two sons, Antonio and Alfredo, collected witness and direct the company that manages the wineries and family farms.

From small local exploitation to the modern Winery that produces quality wines prized in international markets. The Candela have dedicated their life to the wine and Barahonda is the visible result of this passion.

The construction of Barahonda Wineries looks with its characteristic silhouette of simple and symmetrical lines in contrast to the old villages that surround it. Yet it is perfectly integrated into the landscape of the Valley, built with materials traditional and surrounded by the vineyards that provide the precious raw material.

Barahonda wines are structured, expressives, with intense colour and flavor; character and complex wines that each year harvested Awards, honors and high scores of the best critics in the world.

Wines of Barahonda born of the Earth, they are made from the vine, giving the vineyard care that suits you as an essential part in the personality of a quality wine.

Location

Barahonda is located in Denominación de Origen Yecla, in the region of the Highlands, an area of transition between the plateau and the Mediterranean, surrounded by a ring of low mountains and sierra.

Soils

The soils are deep, with good permeability, formed by rocks, limestone and poor in organic matter. We have two zones with different geographical features:

Campo arriba

It is the northern part of Yecla, with an altitude between 700-800 m and a composition of soils: 80% ground limestone, 5% sand, 15% clay.

Campo abajo

It is the southern part of Yecla, with an altitude between 400-500 m and a composition of floors: 30% ground limestone, 5% sand, 65% clay.

Vineyard

Located between 400 and 800 m above the sea level, in deep soils poor in organic matter and limestone rocks.

Currently Barahonda has 150 hectares property and 600 acres controlled by its agricultural technical department, in order to obtain the best grapes.

The vineyards are planted following a model of rectangular or square (as glass or trellis) with a density ranging from 1200 strains by has. cultivated in rainfed and 2900 strains by ha, irrigated.

Grapes

Monastrell is a native variety, round and small grain and compact cluster.

La Monastrell da vinos carnosos, de color intenso, complejos y aromáticos. Y es aquí en esta tierra, en la que se dan tan especiales condiciones de clima y suelo, donde la Monastrell ofrece todo su potencial.

The Monastrell gives fleshy wines with intense, complex and aromatic colour. And it is here on this earth, that are given special conditions of climate and soil, where the Monastrell offers its full potential.

Other red grapes: Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet, Tempranillo, Tintorera and Petit Verdot, and whites: Verdejo, Macabeo and Airén.
