The abandonment, forgotten vineyards on stone structures that man in the past with his hands ordered to get to make terraces that resist the passage of time, on the banks of the River Sil, forming a unique and magical landscape that catches me, as well as our ancestors.
Fernando Alguiera impressed by the vines, challenging the slope, maintaining his balance, working with the wind, the rain, the sun, the moon, the stars, on a slate mattress, he wanted the vines to produce miserable clusters of grapes, transform them into wine, their first Algueira was born, an enormous emotion that motivates me to follow the climbing in the mountain, planting and recovering the old vineyard covered by the forest, passionate with the landscape.
In 2000, as a result of this, his first aging wine was born. This spectacular plot, with low production, would be ruinous to make a young wine, which at that time was what was being produced mostly in the region, with the widespread belief that this area could not make aged wines, old and long-lived. This is how PIZARRA and CARRAVEL were born.
Climate
Diversity is the key to our climate. Mountain viticulture is whimsical, the slopes undulate in different orientations following the sinuous river, which causes a great microclimatic richness. Thanks to the inclination of the slopes, it is possible to find two facing slopes in the same point of the river, with opposite orientations. Two different temperatures, two different climates. Along the course of the river, these two orientations vary practically covering all the cardinal points. Different orientations for different wine profiles.
Soils
Along with the grape varieties, the main protagonists of our wines are the soils. Depending on where we are, we will find different geological compositions. On the sunny and steep banks of Amandi, slate and shale are the most predominant minerals, which bring tension and strength to the Mencía that we cultivate there. On the slopes of Cortezada, the soils are formed by quartz and gneiss, which provide greater freshness and lightness to the white varieties we plant in these vineyards. The vines planted in each area will be submerged in the nuances that each land provides, maintaining the essence of each terroir.
Vineyard
In the mountains of the Ribera Sacra there are all its vineyards, some of them with a spectacular slope of 85 degrees next to the banks of the Sil River. They work only with native varieties, and basing their production entirely on grapes from their own vineyards, which benefit from the exceptional conditions of the microclimate for the production of quality grapes of Galician quality. They also work with a wide range of grapes, whether they are white varieties such as Godello, Treixadura, Albariño and Loureiro or red grapes such as Mencía, Caíño, Sousón, Brancellao and Merenzao.
Its first objective is to prioritize quality over quantity, thus creating a genuine wine that highlights the unique identity of this region.
