When Giuseppe Rivetti and together his son Giorgio began making their own Moscato d'Asti in 1977, they could not have imagined that one day La Spinetta would encompass three properties in Piedmont and one in Tuscany. In 35 years, the Rivetti family has grown from a small Moscato producer into one of the most revered wineries in Italy, producing wines from 100% exclusively estate fruit.
A combination of an unbound passion for wine, strong ideals, respect for tradition and a great ambition toward excellence, prompted Giorgio and his family decide to keep growing, expanding their portfolio of indigenous wines beyond the borders of Piedmont and past the bounderies of still wine.
The Barolo Campè winery, today also Giorgio's home, was the realization of a dream come true, the dream to one day make a Barolo. The expansion into Tuscany started out as a sort of bet; Giorgio wanted to prove that it isn't necessary to blend Cabernet or Merlot with Sangiovese in order to make a great Tuscan wine. Today, La Spinetta Casanova is a seperate Estate with 65 hectares of Sangiovese, Colorino and Vermentino vineyards.
In 2010, driven once again by Giorgioìs enthusiasm, the Rivettis fell in love with Piedmont's oldest traditional method sparkling wine producer, Contratto. It would have been a pity for this gorgeous, historic cellar to end up in the hands of some global multinational beverage producer, and therefore La Spinetta took over the Estate in 2011. Giorgio and his team thus embarked on this new challenge, reviving a brand once known for its Vermouth, Bitter and sparkling wines in Italy.
"In order to make great wines, a fervent philosophy regarding work in both the vineyards and winery is essential, but most of all... one must be willing to work hard"
Vineyards
The vast majority of our efforts at LA SPINETTA are dedicated to the vineyards, which are treated with the utmost care, attention and respect, particularly in regards to agronomic practices and production quantities. We utilize no, or the absolute minimum possible amount of chemicals and maintain a relatively small production.
Team
Those who choose to work in the world of wine tend to follow a passsion rather than simply carry out a job to pay the bills. And so, everybody at LA SPINETTA is a little bit of a wine enthusiast, Rivetti or non-Rivetti, everybody is dedicated to making great wines with passion and understanding, living the philosophy that lies behind each of the wines LA SPINETTA produces.
